Fluoride…it’s not just for kids!

Fluoride is simply a mineral that contributes to oral health by making teeth more resistant to acid produced by bacteria that can cause tooth decay. It helps promote remineralization of tooth enamel in people of all ages.

If you are prone to getting cavities or are experiencing sensitivity in your teeth, your dentist may recommend for you to have fluoride treatments at the time of your professional dental cleaning or they may prescribe a prescription fluoride rinse/paste/gel for you to use at home. Patients with dry mouth syndrome, gum recession, diabetes or other health issues that affect their dental health should be receiving fluoride treatment.

Application of fluoride is not like it used to be. We no longer use the horrible tasting gel that was put into trays and left in your mouth for 5 minutes, making you feel sick and gag. We use a pleasant tasting gel that is applied to your teeth with a cotton swab (Q-tip) and left on your teeth for only one minute.

OraVerseHave you ever felt like you have had a fat lip for hours after a dental procedure? Did you touch your face multiples times just to make sure that you are not drooling on yourself after that dental anesthesia? If yes, then we have a solution for you – ORAVERSE. With oraverse, you don’t have to feel the same way. Oraverse is a numbing reversal agent. After the completion of the procedure, it is injected in the same site where you were given the anesthesia. So instead of being numb for hours, the anesthesia wears off in the next 30-45 minutes. Whew, what a relief. Now, that is just another way we try to make our patients feel comfortable. Call and schedule your appointment with us to learn more about this revolutionary technology!

Dental x-rays can detect many dental problems which can be easily detected during a visual examination. Decay between teeth, fractures, abscesses, and cysts are a few of the dental issues that may only be discovered on an x-ray. We at Comfort Plus Family Dental, use digital x-rays which reduces radiation by as much as 80 percent. You can get more radiation exposure by standing outside in the sun than from the tiny bit you receive from routine dental x-rays. Besides lower radiation, patients no longer have to wait for their x-rays to be developed. X-rays are ready immediately and the dentist can go over the x-rays with the patient during their exam.

The sample x-ray photo shows a fracture (inside the circle) that would not have been detected without an x-ray.
