Tooth Colored Fillings

Tooth Colored Fillings

Are you self-conscious because of the dark, silver colored fillings? You do not have to be any more as we offer tooth colored composite fillings at Birmingham’s Comfort Plus Family Dental.

Composite or Tooth-Colored fillings are the beautiful, virtually undetectable alternative to amalgam or silver fillings that we provide at our Birmingham office. The shade of the composite filling is selected to match the shade of your own teeth and hence you cannot tell the difference.

What are Tooth Colored Composite Fillings?

Composite or the tooth-colored filling material is a mixture of special plastic resin and silica fillers. They are a very good alternative to traditional amalgam or silver fillings for fillings that are small to medium in size and can be used either for front or back teeth.

What is the procedure for Tooth Colored Fillings?

First the old filling and/or decayed tooth structure is removed and a shade is selected that matches with the rest of your teeth. The remaining healthy tooth structure is then cleaned well with a special agent called etch. An adhesive is used to bond the tooth-colored filling to your tooth to seal the gap between the tooth and your tooth colored filling. The tooth-colored or composite filling is then placed in layers and cured with special light so that it hardens and seals the gap between the tooth and the composite filling material. This prevents bacteria from reentering again. It is then polished to make smooth and look natural. For a tooth colored filling, very little healthy tooth structure would have to be removed. That means you can keep more of your healthy tooth structure.

How many visits does a Tooth Colored Filling require?

Tooth colored composite fillings can be usually done in one appointment. So you do not have to take time off multiple times.

I have an existing large amalgam filling. Can you repair or replace my old filling?

If the tooth already has a very large amalgam filling, then Dr. Gutti may recommend inlay/onlay/crown as a better long term option than a regular tooth-colored filling. That helps to keep the tooth strong and prevent against any future fracture.
